There are few people as committed to improving lives and building stronger communities as Mark and Kathie Miller. Mark and Kathie are champions of the United Way of Salt Lake, visionaries, and believers in innovation and progressive change.

Mark and Kathie’s involvement with United Way of Salt Lake reaches back many years. Both have served as dedicated members of United Way of Salt Lake’s Board of Directors and were instrumental in encouraging efforts to increase major giving. Mark chaired the Tocqueville Society in its earliest days. Kathie has led United Way of Salt Lake’s grant-making process numerous times and has served as a member of the Executive Committee, most recently as corporate secretary.

The Mark and Kathie Miller Foundation provided a major initial investment in Community Learning Centers when the concept was first piloted four years ago. Because of their investment, Community Learning Center pilots have increased the number of children and families they serve. Their investment paved the way for United Way of Salt Lake to bring Community Learning Centers into other communities where services were much needed.

Recognizing that some Community Learning Centers could not address all the health needs of the children they serve, Mark and Kathie sought a solution. They made an additional personal investment to incorporate the services of a mobile health clinic to travel between Center locations and ensure that the kids attending school at the Community Learning Centers were able to learn because their health needs were being met.

Mark and Kathie also demonstrate their outstanding support through the Mark Miller Dealerships. They ensure that every employee understands how they can personally impact the tough issues facing our community and they’ve created a business environment where employees can join together to make a meaningful difference.

It is an honor to recognize Mark and Kathie for their exceptional commitment to our community as our
2011 Compassionate Leaders of the Year.

Please join us at the 2011 Celebration of Service.
