New York City Visit – Part II

by Agnes Chiao

Senior Director of Neighborhood Initiatives and Innovation

We were honored to have a wonderful group of people visiting the Harlem Children’s Zone and the Children’s Aid Society a couple of weeks ago in New York.  The group included City of South Salt Lake Mayor – Cherie Wood, Superintendent of Granite School District – Martin Bates, City of South Salt Lake Community Advocate – Kari Cutler, UWSL Board Member – Kathie Miller, UWSL Board Member – Paula Green Johnson, Utah State Education Board Member – David Crandall, Prosperity 2020 – Vicki Varela, and a few UWSL staff.

Vicki Varela, Prosperity 2020, wrote this great piece about her experience visiting the Harlem Children’s Zone that was recently published in the Salt Lake Tribune. Prosperity 2020 (http://www.prosperity2020.com) is a coalition of Utah’s top business leaders assembled to improve Utah’s economy through education.
