Last week United Way of Salt Lake held the Women’s Leadership Council’s annual signature event, Power of Your Purse. This yearly event is an opportunity for WLC members and their friends to come together for a night of networking and fun, as well as a chance to better understand the goals of WLC’s focus, Women for Educational Achievement.
This year, WLC members and guests heard from fantastic speakers! Joan Cronan, Women’s Athletic Director Emeritus (University of Tennessee), gave an electric and entertaining presentation highlighting how important it is to help build the self-confidence of young women. Guests also heard from Crystal Humphreys (Zions Bank), about several women in her life who helped her see the potential in herself, her education, and the power of self confidence. Both speakers were dynamic and touched on the immense influence that WLC members can have on young girls and our community.
This year’s Power of Your Purse program also featured a panel of three Cottonwood High Schools students: Muna Ahamed Taha, Katheryn Dardon, and Rachel Young. Each young girl spoke eloquently about her successes and struggles as a young student, and hopes for her future career.
Andy Wolcott, who has selflessly given her time and talent since the inception of the Women’s Leadership Council, was honored as the WLC member of the year. As a founding member of the WLC, Andy has provided valuable leadership and has been instrumental in the progress and development of the strategies that will make a huge impact on the lives of young women. Andy serves as the chair of the WLC Events and Membership Committee and she brings a wealth of experience and passion. Congratulations, Andy!
The program finished off with a fun prize package giveaway! Congratulations to all of our winners! Thank you to everyone who took time to join us for this great event! We hope that you will join the WLC to help change the odds for young girls in our community.
