Running United!

What could inspire anyone to meet up with their co-workers at 3:45 a.m. on a Friday??

The Reebok Ragnar Relay Race, of course! Last week, me and 13 of my craziest colleagues loaded up into two vans to conquer this 200-ish mile relay race, along the beautiful roads of the Wasatch Back.

Many of us signed up to prove that we could accomplish something bigger than ourselves. This is part of our DNA at United Way of Salt Lake. We work together to eradicate poverty in our local community. Any one person or group working alone truly can’t make meaningful progress towards this goal, but together WE CAN! As my team handed off the baton from one runner to the next, we also fundraised over $6,000 to make it possible for kids in low-income families to successfully move from one academic milestone to the next, and break the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

Although the race is over, our work is not. We fight for our community every day, and want YOU to join us.

Give, Advocate, Volunteer…just START and we promise we will be there as your teammates to cheer you on.

What did a few of our teammates have to say?

“Running Ragnar for RUN UNITED was a daunting challenge. However, accomplishing this goal with 12 amazing colleagues and 2 new friends was extremely rewarding!” —Emilia Comai

“I was very nervous to do Ragnar. I enjoy running and had done several races, but I’d never participated in an overnight relay. My first leg was also the hardest run I’ve ever done, straight up a pass. Mike Watts, one of UWSL’s Community Investment Advisors, convinced me to join — and the support of our team, drivers (go Van 1!), and donors kept me motivated! And guess what? I did it, and I loved it! It was a great challenge to overcome. —Stephanie Rokich

Way to go team RUN UNITED!
And thanks to everyone who supported this effort along the way!
